What Are My Hormones Doing?

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had a long, heavy, painful, irregular cycle.

I wish I could tell you there was one magical way to fix things, but there isn’t. I’ve been on this road for 5 years now. This all began a couple months before my first pregnancy, back in 2017,  that I’ve been on this hard, long journey of becoming a mama.

Back in 2017 I signed up for insurance through my job and decided I wanted to get checked in there, you know, my womanly biddies. I wanted to check my uterus, my ovaries and everything they could possibly check. Like I mentioned above, I’ve always had heavy, long, painful and irregular periods. I was terrified of having PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids or anything else that could be the reason why I was in pain every single cycle.

I got an ultrasound done, all the urine tests…everything came back negative. No abnormalities. Except obviously my hormones were all out of whack. Other than that, according to my OB, everything looked good.

Fast forward to a couple years ago, in 2019, when I started digging deeper into natural ways to help balance my hormones. It was such a long road! I then found the Vitex supplement from Eu Natural on Amazon. I tried it for a little while, but wasn’t sure I was supposed to take that…so, I went on their website and found so much information! They have a particular supplement called Conception, which also include Vitex, but is a prenatal that helps regulate your hormones in a natural way. Given that these are capsules full of the best herbs for fertility! There is also a men’s version called Conception Men which my hubby took not so consistently, but I know it helped. You can learn more in detail here.

Eu Natural - Conception Men

As I became consistent with taking these prenatal vitamins, I started to see actual change. It was definitely gradual, nothing I noticed right away next month, but a couple months in, I began to feel way better! My seemingly long cycles began to shorten. They went from 72 day cycles down to 42 day cycles, consistently. After a couple more months I learned about Regulate. Now, this supplement revolutionized my experience for sure! Regulate is a supplement specifically for regulating hormones and for those with all the symptoms I suffered from, and then some. I saw true change from adding Regulate to my daily routine! My cycle went down to 33 days, consecutively, which is something I had never experienced in my life. I got so used to just waiting on my symptoms to warn me it was coming.

Eu Natural - Regulate

Taking charge of my hormonal health gave me such incredible sense of power over my well-being.  I learned more and more about how my hormone imbalance was affecting my fertility and decided to remove bad habits and add more fruits and vegetables to my diet.

As I navigated through this TTC (trying to conceive) journey, I learned so much about tracking my LH (luteinizing hormone - hormone triggered right before ovulation). I used Easy@Home Ovulation Tests, which I bought through Amazon, they are very cost effective and they work. As the time went on, I definitely wanted to spend my money wisely and be sure I was using Test Kits that helped me obtain more information about my body and that weren’t going to leave me bankrupt!

I then happened upon PROOV, which is a company that was built by a woman going through infertility herself. She wanted to get answers and she wasn’t receiving them from her Primary Doctor or her OBGYN. She created a test strip that tests your Progesterone levels through urine after predicted ovulation (or Peak LH test) in order to confirm that ovulation actually took place and to check that progesterone is properly rising to confirm a healthy ovulation, which is needed to sustain a healthy pregnancy.

I found all that information so incredibly overwhelming, but so empowering! The more information I found, the more I wanted to learn. I wanted to make sure I covered all my bases and got as much information as I could obtain on my own. And, as I had suspected, I had several anovulatory cycles meaning, I was not ovulating! I got positive LH tests, but through PDG (progesterone) tests I confirmed I was not ovulation. If you want to learn more about this fascinating information, click here.

Now, loaded with all this information, I continued to test month after month. As my cycles became more and more regular, I was able to confirm ovulation and had healthy ovulations, which was such a relief!! Following this protocol with supplements and using the mentioned ovulation and progesterone at-home tests is how I was able to conceive my Luca 💚.

Having all this knowledge helped me to go easy on myself and give myself grace, knowing I was doing everything I possibly could to help my body do what it was designed to do.

This journey is hard enough so go easy on your body. Give it time to process new supplements you may integrate into your routine. Take time to learn about these new at-home tests and give them a shot if that is where you need to go.

Knowledge is power. ✨

The best part is that, all this information and the results of your tests, you can take to your OB for them to perform hormonal blood tests and further investigate if necessary, to find out what is going on with your hormones. These at-home tests are meant to be tools for you to learn more about your body and what it’s doing or what it’s not doing.

As always, I am a message away! You are not alone in this journey. Unfortunately, I will be embarking on this journey once more, in search of my rainbow. So, please remember to be kind to your body, your mind and your soul.

FYI: I will be going into further detail on how to know when to test, where I keep track of all this information and more on a later blog.

Below, I will leave the links and the website of each item previously discussed.

Baby dust to you ✨✨✨ (what we say in the TTC community to those who are waiting on their rainbow or first babe)

Mom guilt…

An unavoidable feeling… MOM GUILT. “I haven’t visited his space since the first time we went with Evie…” “I didn’t decorate his space for Christmas…” “Am I doing enough for him?” “Does he feel left out?” “Am I failing him as his mama?” “God, I hope he knows how much I love him…” How can I not feel guilt when I’ve neglected his resting space?  How can I not feel guilt when all my attention has been to surviving this newborn haze?  How can I not feel guilt when I wish I could give my Luca the world and I can’t… Having a second child is so hard, not because I don’t love them equally…but because I have to love them DIFFERENTLY. The differences show up daily.  In how I can hug my sweet babygirl and not my firstborn. In how I can gaze into my Evie’s sweet eyes and not my Luca. In how I can smile at her and see a smile back…oh how I wish I could’ve had that with my Luca. I miss him so much IT HURTS. I wish I could see him walking around, shouting with his cute, high pitch ...

Living my dream!

I’m living my dream ✨ I sniff her hair, let my brain process it… *SHE’S HERE* Hearing her breathe takes me back to rubbing my pregnant bump. How hard I prayed to get here. How much my heart hoped and longed for her. The hours and days and months and years I prayed, hoped, longed, bargained, pleaded... The silent nights, the quiet moments, the empty arms, the empty heart, the missing piece in my life. Turned into - The short days and the long nights… The hard moments and joyous moments… The ins and outs of this early motherhood phase… The tears of frustration and the tears of joy… I’m taking it all in. I’m enjoying every bit of it. No matter how hard I find it. I waited so long for these moments. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I KNOW it’s worth it. ✨ I love being a mama. I love being her mama. I thank God every single day I get to parent here on earth too 🤍✨ She's the sunshine my life needed. Lord knows I needed her. ✨

She's Here! - Evie's Birth Story ✨

Evie's Birth Story After everything we have been through, the greatest gift the Lord gave me was an "easy" pregnancy. Now, I put quotation marks around easy because, in theory, it was easy.  I was considered high risk due to my son's stillbirth ( Luca's birth story ), so we received extra appointments, extra tests, extra ultrasounds, extra monitoring and all the extras we could receive to bring babygirl earthside. Starting at 32 weeks I began the consecutive appointments, starting with a growth scan that showed me my babygirl's sweet face! I did NSTs (non stress test), BPPs ( biophysical profile ultrasound) and growth scans twice a week and an additional appointment for gestational diabetes and growth conversation with my MFM (maternal fetal medicine - high risk) doctor. As you can imagine, it gave me a sense of control and peace that I was doing the absolute most I could possible do for my girl. My perfect babygirl at 32 weeks 💜 Evie had been measuring a...
